Graduate Programme

Situated in Lu Jia Zui, the only finance and trade zone among the 185 state-level development zones in mainland China. The activities in the Shanghai office focus on commodity trading in non-ferrous metals i.e. concentrates and refined metals, iron ore, scrap, coal and derivatives, a particularly exciting area due to significant domestic trading business.

The graduate programme for China will be based in the Mirae Asset Tower, Shanghai. As a successful candidate you will be given the opportunity to complete three 8 month rotations across: Operations, Deals Desk and Finance, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of all areas of the business and equipping you with the tools and support to develop a hugely successful career with Trafigura.

Proficient in Mandarin and English both written and oral, successful candidates will be passionate and ambitious, with real integrity. A natural ability to multi task, great under pressure and able to work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.

Business Areas

  • Deals Desk
    Deals Desk Analysts are responsible for removing outright price and spread risk on all our physical businesses by entering into hedges on appropriate derivatives exchanges. Additionally they are responsible for marking all physical trading books against the current market to ensure independent and transparent forward profitability forecasting and clear communication of the market risks within each book to Traders and Senior Management.
  • Operations
    Traffic Operators are responsible for all aspects of executing physical shipments. Responsibilities include but are not limited to logistics, hedging, profit and loss issuance and risk mitigation.
  • Trade Finance
    Trade Finance Operators are responsible for the financing of all Trafigura’s physical non-ferrous business including the timely issuance or receipt of trade finance instruments, whilst developing banking lines, optimising costs and controlling credit and commercial risks.
